SD Climate Week - How to Start a Community Garden Panel
Join us for a discussion of what it takes to start a community garden from a panel of seasoned gardeners in San Diego.
Come meet fellow gardeners and activists, learn about the new community garden forming in North Park, and see the fruits of our labor at the College Area Community Garden!

After "How to Start a Community Garden" from 11-1, we are hosting a free/donations-based yoga and sound bath from 6-8 PM, supported by SD DSA's ecosocialist working group.

Swap Party & Voter Registration
We're teaming up this fall with San Diego SURJ, SD Families for Liberation, and DSA San Diego to bring gardeners and the community together and exchange clothes, toys, small home goods/decor, books, and baked goods. All ages welcome—this is a family-friendly event! Please bring items in good condition and leave behind anything torn or stained.
If you bake and love to share, we'd love for you to bring something to share while we shop and chat!
We'll also have resources to check your voter registration and/or register to vote for the upcoming midterms. You can learn how SD DSA, SD SURJ, and SD Families for Liberation are supporting San Diego communities, and learn about more opportunities for community engagement and impact.
Want to help even more?
We'll be gathering canned goods and non-perishable food items to donate to a local food bank or mutual aid group. If you have the capacity, donations would be greatly appreciated as a way to continue giving back to our community.
Anything left over from the swap goes directly to Alliance for African Assistance nearby.
Parking is free right in front of the garden. Come by, swap, grab a cookie, and stay a while!

As the recipient of a grant from the San Diego Master Gardeners, we’re building brand new, gopher-proof garden beds! Some beds will go to garden members and some will go to our non-profit partners, like Alliance for African Assistance.
Not a builder? We always have miscellaneous tasks like harvesting co-op beds, composting, and light work. This community garden cannot run without you!
All ages, abilities and experience are welcome. Events are open to garden members and the public.

8-10 am — Plant Natives: We received 50 native plants from the San Diego Bird Alliance that we will be planting to support our hillside. Join for a special presentation of native pollinators from the Natural History Museum!
9-11am — Build Raised Beds: As the recipient of a grant from the San Diego Master Gardeners, we’re building brand new, gopher-proof garden beds!
10-11am — Children’s Storytime: Presented by Nigel of the College-Rolando Library
11-12pm — Potluck: Bring a dish to share, pick up a plate, and dig in!
Cool Weather Gardening Class (Seed Swap + Potluck)
Learn the essentials of starting and caring for a cool weather garden from Master Gardener David Petit. In this 1.5 hour class, you’ll learn how to plan and maintain your fall and winter garden. This event includes:

Bring your questions, and if you have seeds to share, bring those too! We’ll end this workshop with a seed swap and potluck.
About David Petit
A longtime gardener right here at College Area Community Garden, David Petit has helped build and run many projects on our grounds. From the fruiting blackberry tunnels to our beautiful pollinator garden, his expertise as a Master Gardener has help shape much of the community we’ve grown today.
