Where we began...
"My father (Ben Bertram, 1906 – 1999) had always planted healthy eating and work habits in me to foster a sustainable foundation for success. Thanks to the seeds of knowledge that he shared with me, I was the CEO of a construction company in San Diego for 25 successful years.
In 2011, my neighbors in the College View residential area expressed interest in a neighborhood veggie garden. Transitioning into retirement, this endeavor was a natural fit for me given my professional acumen. Furthermore, it echoed my father’s advocacy for healthy foods and belief in eating as naturally as possible.
With the help of our neighbors at SDSU and College View residents, the College Area Community Garden has grown to be a place where college students and community members can cultivate a social, friendly, and educationally rich environment to promote sustainability, community, and healthy lifestyles.
